Toyota and Avalanche Launch Blockchain Network to Put Cars on Chain

According to the latest reports, Toyota and Avalanche have launched a joint initiative to embed blockchain natively into the mobility ecosystem in Japan. This will be handled via their Mobility Orchestration Network (MON), a proof-of-concept built on Avalanche’s multichain architecture and Interchain Messaging (ICM). 

Beyond autonomous fleets, the aim is to integrate vehicle financing, leasing, ride-sharing, insurance, ownership transfers, and carbon credit tracking into one blockchain-enabled layer. Avalanche’s Interchain Messaging (ICM) glues these L1s together, enabling secure cross-chain communication and atomic delivery-versus-payment functionality.

Toyota and Avalanche contend that robotaxis might be the most transformative blockchain use case in transportation. Roi Hirata, head of Ava Labs in Japan, noted that on-chain fundraising and leasing models present opportunities for anyone to start a robotaxi business.

“The payments, the leasing, you can actually start your own robotaxi services by raising funds on-chain, with some kind of security token system,” he explained.

With this, investors can control entire fleets on-chain, monitor financial performance, as well as maintenance and ownership data, without third parties.
