A recent leak from HBO’s upcoming documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery has reignited speculation about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the elusive creator of Bitcoin. Clips circulating on social media suggest that Peter Todd, a former Bitcoin Core developer, might be the person behind the name.

Peter Todd Denies Satoshi Nakamoto Allegations

Despite the buzz, Peter Todd firmly denies being Satoshi Nakamoto. Todd, who has been involved in the cryptocurrency space since 2010 and worked on Bitcoin Core, is also the founder of OpenTimestamps. He has dismissed the claims as absurd, saying that Cullen Hoback, the documentary’s director, is looking for answers where there are none.

In the documentary, Hoback points to private logs and posts from Bitcoin forums, suggesting that Todd could have been Nakamoto. One key claim is that Todd may have erased the only way to access the 1.1 million Bitcoins supposedly held by Nakamoto.

HBO Documentary Leak Sparks Heated Debate

Ahead of its release, snippets of the documentary have surfaced online, raising curiosity among viewers about the documentary’s conclusions. In one of the most striking scenes, Hoback directly confronts Todd, suggesting that he is Satoshi Nakamoto.

Although Todd is not the only figure suspected of being Nakamoto, the leaked footage has turned attention toward him. Many in the crypto community have dismissed the allegations, calling them baseless. Others, including figures like Adam Back, have also faced similar speculation about being Nakamoto, although Back has not refuted claims made in the documentary.

Meanwhile, platforms like Polymarket have seen bets placed on various figures believed to be Nakamoto. Before the documentary’s leak, names like Nick Szabo and Len Sassaman were among the top contenders, but the “Other/Multiple” option has since gained traction.

The documentary’s IMDb page even briefly listed all cast members as Satoshi Nakamoto, a nod to the popular crypto phrase “We are all Satoshi.” However, the page was later restored to its original state, adding to the intrigue surrounding the documentary.

As the mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity continues to captivate the crypto world, the leaked footage from HBO’s documentary highlights just how complex and unresolved the issue remains.
