Trust is the only thing a news organization really has. This code sets out the standards every Deythere writer, editor, and contributor is required to follow.

Disclosure of cryptocurrency holdings

Crypto reporting carries an obvious conflict risk: writers may own the assets they write about. Our rules:

  • Writers must disclose any meaningful holding in a token or project when they write about it. Where a holding is material to a specific article, that disclosure appears in the article itself.
  • Writers may not trade on non-public information obtained through their reporting.
  • Writers may not write about a token with the intent of moving its price (“pump and dump”) and may not accept tokens in exchange for coverage.

No pay-for-coverage

Editorial coverage cannot be bought. We do not accept payment, gifts, tokens, or other consideration in return for writing, altering, or removing a story. Paid placements are handled separately and are always labeled as sponsored, see our Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure.

Gifts and hospitality

Staff decline gifts, paid travel, or hospitality from companies and projects we cover when accepting them could create, or appear to create, a conflict of interest.

Separation of editorial and commercial

Our advertising and sponsorship team operates separately from the newsroom. Commercial partners do not receive advance notice of editorial coverage and cannot influence it.

Fairness and accountability

  • We give the subjects of critical reporting a fair opportunity to respond.
  • We treat sources honestly and protect confidential sources.
  • We correct errors openly under our Corrections Policy.
