Ethereum’s public roadmap now lists Glamsterdam for the fourth quarter of 2026 and Hegotá for 2027. That makes the roadmap useful as a guide to the work Ethereum developers are discussing, but it is not a fixed delivery calendar or a price signal. The roadmap itself says that development is community-driven and subject to change.

    • Do wallet users need to do anything before a future Ethereum upgrade?
    • Does a public roadmap predict the price of ETH?

For readers following the network, the practical question is not whether a named upgrade will create an immediate market effect. It is which technical problems the proposed work is trying to address, which changes have already shipped and which details still have to be designed, tested and accepted by the network. This article separates those questions using Ethereum’s published roadmap as its primary source.

What is already part of Ethereum’s recent upgrade history

The roadmap records Pectra as having activated on May 7, 2025 and Fusaka on December 3, 2025. Pectra added capabilities that can let externally owned accounts use features associated with smart-contract wallets, including transaction batching, fee sponsorship and recovery options. It also raised the maximum effective balance for a validator from exactly 32 ETH to as much as 2,048 ETH. Those are protocol changes, not a promise that every wallet, app or staking provider will implement every new option in the same way.

Fusaka focused in part on data availability for rollups. Ethereum’s roadmap describes PeerDAS as a way to make data availability more efficient while helping keep node operation accessible. It also describes blob-parameter-only forks, which can change blob capacity between major upgrades. These details matter because many lower-fee Ethereum transactions occur on layer 2 networks, and those networks need a dependable way to publish and verify their data.

The distinction is important. A protocol can make a capability available, while wallet providers, exchanges, rollups and other services decide how and when to support it. A headline that says an upgrade makes transactions cheaper therefore needs a second question: cheaper for which activity, on which network and under what conditions?

What Glamsterdam is intended to address

Ethereum’s current page places Glamsterdam in the fourth quarter of 2026. It lists two main areas: enshrined proposer-builder separation and block-level access lists. The first describes separating agreement on a block from the process of assembling it. In the roadmap’s framing, validators could outsource block building without needing to trust external building software in the same way.

Block-level access lists concern the state a block expects to touch. Mapping those dependencies in advance can help clients synchronise more quickly and support more parallel work. The roadmap says this could improve gas-cost predictability for state-heavy applications. That is a technical objective, not a quoted future fee level. Actual costs still depend on network demand, application design and the route a user takes through the Ethereum ecosystem.

The roadmap also explicitly notes that these are changes scheduled so far and that scope is not final. Readers should treat a quarter on a roadmap as a planning marker. It does not replace release notes, client announcements, testnet results or the eventual mainnet activation details.

Why data availability remains central to the scaling discussion

Ethereum’s earlier Dencun upgrade introduced blob transactions through EIP-4844. The roadmap says blobs store rollup data temporarily in a new, cheaper transaction type. Fusaka’s PeerDAS work follows the same broad question: how can a network make the data behind rollups available for verification without requiring every participant to handle every piece of it in the same way?

Illustrative AI-generated image. Data availability is one part of the scaling discussion.

This is why a roadmap can sound distant from ordinary wallet activity while still affecting it over time. A rollup may be able to offer a lower fee because its design uses a different execution environment, publishes data in a different format or batches transactions differently. Those savings are not identical to a change in Ethereum mainnet fees. Users should read a provider’s own fee and withdrawal terms rather than infer them from a protocol roadmap.

The roadmap also says that shard chains were dropped after layer 2 rollups developed more quickly than originally expected. That example shows why roadmaps change. The underlying goal, more usable capacity without weakening the security model, can persist even when the technical route is revised.

Hegotá is further out and even more conditional

Hegotá is listed for 2027. The page currently highlights fork-choice enforced inclusion lists and frame transactions. Inclusion lists are intended to make it harder for a single block builder to leave otherwise valid transactions out of blocks. Frame transactions would move more validity logic into the account model, opening a path for features such as spending limits, social recovery, sponsored gas and possible post-quantum signature options.

Neither item should be reduced to a simple consumer product claim. Inclusion policy, transaction validity and cryptographic migration involve trade-offs in client implementation, security review and network coordination. Ethereum’s roadmap says directly that future timing is difficult to predict because work progresses at different speeds and priorities can change when circumstances change.

For that reason, an article about an in-development upgrade should name its source and its uncertainty. It should not frame a planned feature as if it were already active, and it should not translate a roadmap entry into a guaranteed outcome for ETH, network fees or a particular application.

A practical reading method for upgrade headlines

A concise check can make roadmap coverage more useful:

  1. Confirm whether the source says the feature is active, scheduled or merely proposed.
  2. Identify the protocol layer involved: execution, consensus, data availability, wallets or a layer 2 service.
  3. Check whether the claim concerns a network capability or a product offered by a third party.
  4. Look for the limits of the claim, including scope that is still subject to change.

That approach is especially relevant in crypto coverage because a technical roadmap, a wallet announcement and a market move can occur near each other without proving that one caused the other. The source material supports an explanation of the network’s plans. It does not support an investment recommendation.

Frequently asked questions

Is Glamsterdam already live on Ethereum?

No. Ethereum’s roadmap lists Glamsterdam as in development and places it in the fourth quarter of 2026. The same page says its scope is not final. A listing on the roadmap should not be treated as confirmation that the feature set is active or that every implementation detail has been settled.

Will Glamsterdam automatically make Ethereum transactions cheaper?

The roadmap describes technical goals such as better parallel work and more predictable gas costs for state-heavy applications. It does not quote a universal transaction price. Fees depend on demand, the application, the network used and the service handling the transaction. A protocol objective is not a personal cost guarantee.

What is the connection between PeerDAS and layer 2 networks?

PeerDAS concerns the availability of data that rollups publish for verification. Ethereum’s roadmap presents it as a way to make that process more efficient while keeping node operation accessible. Layer 2 systems can have their own fee policies and security assumptions, so users should also consult the documentation of the network they use.

Do wallet users need to do anything before a future Ethereum upgrade?

Ethereum’s roadmap says regular users are generally not required to take action simply because of an upgrade. Node operators and application developers may have technical preparation to complete. Users should rely on notices from the specific wallet or service they use and verify those notices through official channels before acting on any request.

Does a public roadmap predict the price of ETH?

No. A roadmap describes technical plans and current development priorities. It does not establish a future market price, a return or a timetable for a particular investment outcome. Market conditions can change for reasons unrelated to a protocol upgrade.

Method and sources: This article was prepared from Ethereum’s public roadmap, checked on September 6, 2026. The roadmap was last updated on September 3, 2026 and identifies development work as subject to change. References to Pectra, Fusaka, Glamsterdam and Hegotá describe the roadmap’s published status, not independent performance tests or forecasts.
