“K’aro o ji’re, Nini de!” (Good morning, woke well? Nini is here). This was the sonorous moniker that, like yesterday, helped endear Niniola Apata, better known simply as Niniola, to the hearts of music lovers across the African continent and now, gradually, the world at large.
Now, the Nigerian singer and songwriter is no longer regarded as a ‘rising star’ of sorts, as she’s definitely proven her mettle even in such seemingly little space of time in the limelight.
Fondly referred to presently as the ‘Queen of Afro-House’ (a blend of Afrobeats and House music), Niniola follows up the success of her earlier chart-topping hit, “Maradona”, with yet another sick tune which, ironically, is titled “Sicker”.
Off her forthcoming debut album – scheduled for release later this 2017 – titled “This is Me”, Niniola teams up with super talented Nigerian music producer, Osabuohien Osaretin, popularly known as Sarz, on this new track and, as the name implies, it’s even a lot sicker than Maradona.
The remarkable synergy between Niniola and Sarz is now fast becoming the stuff of legends though, as they appear to seamlessly churn out monster hit after hit. You might recall that Sarz was also responsible for her breakthrough single “Ibadi” back in March 2014.
“Sicker” embodies all the qualities that have come to stand Niniola out as an act to reckon with in this industry – vocal dexterity and prowess, and an effervescent vibrancy that can light up any party and dance floor in any part of the world. And, of course, it is our Song of the Week, Saturday, November 11, 2017: Niniola – “Sicker”. Enjoy.
